Tsuen Wan Boulders
General Information:
Situated on a hillside overlooking Tsuen Wan, these boulders give some
excellent technical problems (at nearly all levels) on high friction tuff
(watch those tips). The setting and quality of the problems make the uphill
slog to get to them well worth while.
News: A 45 page guide for the boulders
will soon be available through this site. The guide features full colour
maps and topo's for all the major areas and covers over 235 problems between
VB and V10. Watch this space.......
Approach:
Take either a taxi to the Allway Gardens, On Yat Street (Tsuen Wai Fa
Yuen) and walk along the concrete footpath until you reach a small bridge,
or take a bus to the TL Adventist Hospital (No. 39M) and walk up the concrete
staircase opposite the hospital entrance. Once you've crossed over the
bridge continue up the hill to a catchwater (you can drive to this point
if you have your own transportation) and cross this, again continuing
up the hill. After about 1/2km a path breaks right from the main one and
contours the hillside a short way before continuing upwards, follow this
until you reach a small shelter at the top of the hill. Turn right and
follow a small dirt track to reach the Ha Fa Shan Boulders (visible on
the summit to the right of the path) or break left off the main track,
onto a dirt path, to head towards Shek Lung Kung, Lin Fa Shan and Radar
Rocks.
Boulder Sets:
There are four sets of boulders each with their own individual style and
character. Ha Fa Shan has by far the greatest number of problems, and
with it's short approach this makes it the most popular set (although
it's still unlikely to be crowded). Lin Fa Shan has some absolute gems
of problems and numerous easy angled slabs which are relatively good for
beginners making it well worth a visit. Shek Lung Kung is pretty rough
rock and will eat your fingers alive but has some superb problems! Radar
rocks is home to some scary highballs and plenty of hard problems.
